Welcoming Sarah Clarke
Introducing our new dancers! Congratulations to each artist joining the Ballet 5:8 professional company for the 2020/21 Season. One of our traditions is asking a few questions to get to know them.
Sarah Clarke, Apprentice
Q. Where will you be coming to Ballet 5:8 from?
A. I will be relocating from Charlotte, NC. I have been studying under Charlotte Ballet as a Trainee for the past two seasons. Prior to living in Charlotte, I lived with my family in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania where I trained primarily with Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet.
Q. What attracted you to Ballet 5:8?
A. I had heard about Ballet 5:8 as an up and coming faith based company, my interest was heightened after meeting a few of the current members of the company at Alonzo King Lines Summer Intensive this past summer. Their genuine and grounded attitude inside and outside of the studio drew my attention. It was encouraging to meet artists who have found a way to combine their love for God and the art of dance in a way that honors both.
Q. Why do you dance?
A. Dancing has always been a significant outlet for me to be creative and to express ideas and emotion through movement. Sharing this creative art form with other dancers, students and audience members is a challenge which is completely rewarding.
Q. What is something you enjoy about Chicago or think you'll enjoy about Chicago?
A. Connecting to a solid church family, lots of snow, and of course..deep dish pizza!
Q. What is one thing people will be surprised to learn about you?
A. I recently discovered I have a green thumb and I now obtain an ever-growing collection of house plants. (All of which have names).
Q. What are you most looking forward to about the coming performance season?
A. I am looking forward to performing works which are designed with God's glory in mind.
