Q. What is one thing that has stood out to you through the creation process?

A. I enjoyed exploring movements and movement qualities that were very different than what we normally rehearse. It was fun to try something new, even at the risk of looking or feeling silly--but there is such an atmosphere of trust between the dancers, and with Julianna, that there was not that fear of failure. I feel that enables a lot of creativity and unique, interesting movement to be created.

Q. Describe the style of movement: how does it relate to your character, and how has your experience been dancing it so far?

A. It is very grounded, and much more human. There is definitely the influence of ballet technique, but there is a more natural quality to it. There's definitely an element of portraying the natural world through movement--water, earth, light, and trees. It's interesting how even something as simple as an arm movement can convey so much about a character or setting.

Q. Why see The Rough-Face Girl?

A. I'm looking forward to seeing the whole piece come together, and performing it outdoors. I believe it will be a beautiful and unique performance.
