Q. What role will you be playing in Mo(u)rning?

A. Right now I’m working on the Anger solo. It’s pretty straight forward, there comes a point in grief where that simmering anger finally boils over. When it does lose control it usually ends up hurting you more then anyone else.

Q. What traits of your character are you trying to emulate while dancing?

A. I see two sides to anger. First there’s this sort of animalistic nature, lots of attack, waiting to pounce on your victim. But then there’s also an almost laissez faire attitude where you don’t care what happens to anyone around you. Or even at times yourself.

Q. In what ways do you relate to the message of Mo(u)ring?

A. I’ve dealt with grief, who hasn’t? What’s beautiful in Mo(u)ring is that you can see the physicalization of emotions you may never have been able to fully process or verbalize. It speaks to deep hurts and shows a story of finding restoration even in the broken.

Q. What is your favorite part of Mo(u)rning?

A. I love how each solo makes you feel that specific emotion. There’s not much acting required, the movement takes you there.

Q. Why should someone go see Mo(u)rning?

A. If you’ve ever grieved (and to be honest who hasn’t?) You will relate to this piece. My hope is that it may help bring people to that final stage. Acceptance.
