Dancer Fun Facts | Ellington Nichols

Get to know the professional artists of Ballet 5:8 as we ask them about their hometowns, favorite dance memories, and people who helped them succeed.

Where is your hometown? What is it like?

My hometown is in Minnesota, about 45 min north of the Twin Cities, in a little town not even big enough to have its own Post Office. 

Is there one person that helped you get where you are today? If so, tell us a little about them and your journey.

My parents both played an exponential part in my journey and how far I have come today. They supported me mentally, financially, physically, and spiritually. I would not be where I am today without their guidance and never-ending support. They always helped me follow my dreams even when those dreams took me miles away from them to train in a different state. To this day, they support me by coming to as many shows as they can and I will be forever blessed by them. 

What is one favorite or funny memory from your years of dance training?

A favorite memory of mine from my training days would be getting to perform Kitri for my graduating performance in NYC alongside some of my best friends. It was extra special because my mom got to fly out and be there in person to watch me. 

What is your favorite thing about summer in Chicago? Do you have a favorite place to visit/local restaurant/activity?

I think my favorite thing about summertime in Chicago would have to be the warm weather because there are more outdoor activities available. I love to be outdoors, explore new forest preserves, go to the beach, and go on walks during sunset. 

Last thing—what in the upcoming 2021/22 season are you most excited for?

I think most of all I am looking forward to the various repertoire we get to perform this season. Each ballet that we will be presenting has such an important story and message to portray and I’m excited to have the opportunity to share that with the audience.
