Q: As a professional, you get to let more of your personal style be reflected in your ballet attire—in three words, how would you describe your style?

A: I usually try to emulate a modern, casual, yet sleek look. I typically stay away from neons or bright jewel tones and tend towards pastels and more earthy hues.

Q: What's your favorite warm up or leotard that brings you joy?

A: I think the warm-ups that bring me the most joy are my pair of black stirrup leg warmers. They were a gift from my Nana when I was a young student and they've been with me for a long time. They're pretty ratty at this point but I love the way it adds to their character. I wouldn't trade them for anything!

Q: What are the top five things in your dance bag?

That's a hard one, my bag is usually very well stocked.

  1. My jump rope, it's really just a cut of normal rope that I've been using to warm-up.

  2. My lacrosse ball and my myofascial release ball. Both are a crucial part of my pre-class routine.

  3. My full length leg warmers, they come in handy during our harsh Chicago winters.

  4. My Perfect Pointe toepads. Seriously they are game changers!

  5. The last thing might be kind of a cheat but I have a small zipper bag which has been lovingly termed "The pink flower bag." It's my catch-all emergency kit - stitch kit, jet glue, breath mints - it's got everything.

Q: What is one piece of dance wear or accessory you can't live without?

A: Hands down my hip wrap! I've struggled with chronic back pain for awhile now and this little wrap has been a life-saver. There's a million different brands/styles of them, but mine is one I hand crocheted to fit me perfectly.
