2020/21 Season in Review | Olivia Kruse
Hear from Ballet 5:8 Solo Artist Olivia Kruse as she reflects on her experiences during the 20/21 Season.
Pick one word to describe the overall season. Why?
Variety - we've done so many different pieces this season. It's fun to have such a range in our rep. From classical tutu ballets to edgy contemporary movement to full-length story ballets, we've done a little bit of everything this season.
Can you share a favorite moment from on or offstage?
I always cherish the sweet moments backstage before a performance. There's something magical about waiting in the wings and witnessing the beauty of your friends onstage.
Out of all the works you performed this season, does one stand out as the most meaningful or most notable for you personally? Why?
Storge from Golden Sessions has been the most challenging role and the most rewarding role I've danced this season. It has a special place in my heart. Sharing the stage with my friends, dancing a ballet inspired by C.S. Lewis's The Four Loves, and indulging in such beautiful music has been a treat to dance. Golden Sessions is a work so full of dynamic and meaning.
Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?
I've been especially inspired by my fellow dancers this season. I'm reminded every day just how blessed I am to be surrounded by their caring hearts, loving friendship, and constant support.
What are you up to this summer?
I'll be spending time back home with my family, going on lots of walks with my dogs, and soaking up the sunshine!
