Meet the Characters | Reckless
Hear from the dancers about the characters they are portraying in Julianna Rubio Slager’s newest work, Reckless. Second Company member Lydia Lund shares about her character.
1. What role/character will you be dancing in Reckless?
I play a member of the street scene. This allows me to embody multiple characters throughout the ballet that come alongside the Greek Chorus and help tell the story. I also embody various objects and structures to help set the stage for the storytelling.
2. How did you research/prepare for your role? What is something that stood out to you in your research?
I read through the book of Hosea to fully understand the overarching story of love that Reckless is portraying.
3. Describe the movement/style of the choreography. Is it different/the same as what you've done before? What is the most challenging aspect of the ballet?
The movement quality is expansive and full of intention. Each step says something and has so much meaning and purpose—as a dancer you have to also become an actor in order to accurately perform the choreography. With so much intention involved, I think one of the challenges for the ballet will be stamina, both emotional and physical.
4. Why should audiences see Reckless?
The captivating choreography offers so much to look at and experience. Audiences will be transported to a thought-provoking place that will give way to intentional, meaningful conversations.
