2020/21 Season in Review | Lorianne Robertson
Hear from Ballet 5:8 Lead Artist Lorianne Robertson as she reflects on her experiences during the 20/21 Season.
Pick one word to describe the overall season. Why?
Daring! We tried a lot of new things for us as a company. Performing outdoors on many surfaces, filming more ballets in a single season than ever before, and performing in our very own studio transformed into a professional quality black box.
Can you share a favorite moment from on or offstage?
Performing in the Agape tutus. There is an unmatched pleasure in the flow of the tulle catching the air, it makes you feel very whimsical and lovely!
Out of all the works you performed this season, does one stand out as the most meaningful or most notable for you personally? Why?
I loved performing the role of the Agape solo. The music is really beautiful, costumes stunning and a huge honor to try to show the depth and range of God’s love in that movement. I also loved sharing the role with my college, Laura, and be able to relate to both the beauty and challenges that the role brings.
Is there a particular quote or idea that has been inspirational to you this season?
I have really been reflecting on cherishing these moments. We never know what’s next and wanting to look back on these times with fond joy even amid the hardships of this pandemic year.
What are you up to this summer?
Visiting family/traveling on the west coast, enjoying Chicago city life, and working in the Ballet 5:8 costume shop.
