Serious Training In Classical Ballet
Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts offers a pre-professional training program designed to meet the needs of the serious student of classical ballet. The Pre-Professional Program curriculum allows students to progress through six levels of graduated vocabulary, technique and performance training as they mature in age and most importantly, in ability. Our goal is to prepare students to dance professionally, to earn college dance scholarships, to work as dance instructors, and to use their gifts in dance in Christian ministry settings.
Students are always welcome to join the Pre-Professional Program. However, level placement is always subject to instructor evaluation. In addition, students in levels II and higher are required to attend all classes that are part of their training program, including ballet technique, pointe, contemporary and modern classes. Students progress upward through the levels based on formal evaluations and level recommendations made each spring.
Students in the Pre-Professional Program have the opportunity to participate in the School of the Arts’ two annual full length productions. Students in levels 1 and 2 may elect to participate along with their classes; students in levels 3, 4 and 5 may audition to participate as part of the Ballet 5:8 School of the Arts Ensemble Companies. Participation is always optional but is strongly encouraged, as performing is a significant part of a student’s development as a well-rounded dancer–and a significant part of students’ training as leaders in worship through the arts.
